What is Massage Therapy?
Massage Therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage Therapy helps alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with every day muscular stresses and occupational overuse. It can greatly reduce the development of painful muscular patterning, if employed early enough after accidents involving trauma and injury.

How Does Massage Therapy Work?
Muscles automatically contract around any painful site to support and protect the area. If pain is resolved quickly muscles relax. If pain persists, muscles can become habitually contracted and decrease circulation to the area.
In any area with chroncially poor circulation, the body eventually lays down collagen fibres, which are buidling blocks of scar tissues. While helpful for healing injuries, this natural reaction can "glue" muscles and fascia into a shortened state. Massage helps by stretching tight muscles and stimulating the nervous system to relax muscle tension. Massage increases circulation, hydrates and softens contracted fascia, allowing muscles and fasia fibres that have been adhered together to be separated.
